Classical Music in the Foyer
Thursday, May 3rd, 7:30 pm
The concert series “Classic in the Foyer” of the Royal Danish Embassy continues with a concert for trumpet and piano.
Danish trumpeter Maja Helmes and South Korean born pianist Mijin Lee
have been playing together for over two years. Maja Helmes completed her
concert examination at the Academy of Music “Hanns Eisler” Berlin in
2004. Since then she has participated in numerous concerts of the Berlin
Philharmonic Orchestra, has played solo trumpet at the Deutsche Oper
Berlin and is currently playing in the Hessian Radio Symphony Orchestra
Frankfurt. The sought-after chamber musician Mijin Lee graduated from
the prestigious Yon Sei University in 1990. She received her concert
diploma from the Detmold Academy of Music in 1997 and has given
outstanding solo performances in Germany and abroad.
For the concert on May 3rd, the duo is focusing on Danish music.
Among other compositions, the evening’s varied programme will include
Vagn Holmboe’s trumpet concerto in a new version, which was created in
cooperation with the Wilhelm Hansen publishing house. It was originally
composed for symphony orchestra; now this will be the premiere
performance of the composition for trumpet and piano. The evening’s
programme also features compositions of Axel Jørgensen, Thorvald Hansen,
Hilda Sehested and Niels Viggo Bentzon.
