Art on the Poster - 100 years of Danish Poster Art
09.05.07-
17.06.07
The Royal Danish Embassy, in collaboration with the Danish Poster
Museum in Århus, is exhibiting nearly 40 posters which show the artistic
and technical development of poster art over the last 100 years.
In Danish the expression "på plakaten" is a pun.
Literally
translated it means "on the poster", but it also often means "what’s
up, what’s on". In this exhibition, what’s on the poster is art.
The
exhibition takes you from the great classic Tuborg beer ad "The Thirsty
Man" from 1900 through outstanding examples of Danish art nouveau to the
heyday of the forties and fifties, the period in which most of the
Danish poster classics were created.
The time journey through
various art genres and styles ends with the 1990s and the important
artist Per Kirkeby. Experience an exhibition of Denmark’s most creative
poster artists and see how they view their country.
