"Sonoric Perspectives – Sonoric Ecologies" is the title of an exhibition
presented by the Nordic Embassies in the Felleshus from 10 January to 9
February 2008. The exhibition features Sound Art, a form of art
installation in which music, noises and sometimes even silence play an
essential role.
Since 2004, the Baltic Sea Biennial of Sound Art has been documenting
and illuminating developments taking place internationally in Sound
Art. "Sonoric Perspectives - Sonoric Ecologies" features highlights of
the 2006 biennial exhibition and offers a preview of the upcoming 2008
Baltic Sea Biennial.
"Sonoric Perspectives" showcases an extensive collection of Sound Art
installations from the last thirty years, brought together in this
retrospective exhibition for the first time.Projects carried out by high
school students in Rostock, Stralsund and Ystad in 2006 are also
documented. The students’ aim was to learn and practice the fundamental
techniques involved in this artistic genre, which spans art, music and
acoustic research. From different vantage points the students
experienced and described the acoustic environs of their routes to
school, indoor rooms and regional events.Public space and the noises
hidden within it are experienced as the source material of Sound
Art."Sonoric Perspectives" invites visitors to the Nordic Embassies to
consciously experience noises and experiment with them playfully and
artistically.
A preview of the summer programme 2008, "Sonoric Ecologies", shows
works dealing with ecological issues through the medium of Sound Art.
