It is not only that the Nordic Embassies in Berlin have a faible for
design and architecture, they transform their house of culture - the
Felleshus - into a market hall, thus demonstrating that architecture,
too, can be sustainable.
This first part of a two-part
exhibition with the theme “Sustainable Building” focuses on the visions
of contemporary Danish architects. The second part, which will be shown
in the same venue starting the 6th of October, will then illuminate
specific projects.
The exhibition takes a look at the current
visions of Danish architects. Under the motto “Back to the Beginnings”
of building, the architects have playfully implemented their ideas in
workshops. Using small wooden boxes, they explored the question of how
buildings can be constructed sustainably today.
The result was a
series of very different models from recyclable material which explore
the theme of recyclability. The fragile little models are placed in a
walk-in installation setting made of recyclable fruit crates from a
Berlin wholesale market.
The exhibition raises the question of
what sustainability actually is, how a new generation of Danish
architects deals with it and how they incorporate sustainability in
their own works.
