"All is not always what it seems to be at first glance"
The exhibition "Stray Trek" is designed especially for children and
young people, conceived as an exciting journey of the senses to
experience contemporary art. The starting point of Stray Trek is
experience and spatiality - reflections, apparitions, light, shadow,
motion and strange perspectives.
The exhibition invites viewers on an adventure to experience and
marvel at works of art. Henna Paunu, curator of Stray Trek, puts it this
way: "All is not always what it seems to be at first glance, if you
take a longer look you will discover exciting and captivating details in
the different works."
None of the exhibition pieces were expressly created for children,
but the Rauma Art Museum chose the works and planned the entire
exhibition with this target group in mind. A ‘tourist map’ and a guide
with fun assignments related to the works on display are also part of
the concept. For museum curators planning art exhibitions, children and
young people represent a challenging and demanding, but also very
appreciative group of visitors. They are interested, creative, curious,
unbiased and open to learning something new. These qualities should be
fostered throughout life, and art is a good means to do so.
Stray Trek showcases the works of eight contemporary Finnish artists,
all of whom deal with the above-mentioned themes in their works: Petri
Eskelinen, Jari Haanperä, Terike Haapoja, Hanna Haaslahti, Helena
Hietanen & Jaakko Niemelä, Anssi Kasitonni and Atte Uotila.
