Saturday, the 19th of june will go into the Swedish history books – as the wedding day of HRH
Crown Princess Victoria and
Daniel Westling.
To mark the occasion of this so romantic and joyful event, the Swedish
Embassy is exhibiting products from the official wedding series.
Table
linens, napkins, porcelain, cutlery, glasses, beverages, notebooks,
picture frames, sweets ... The series includes many different things.
They are all adorned by a
pattern originating
from Drottningholm Castle. The original was created on the occation of
the renovation of the Royal Hall upon the initiative of King Oscar I and
Queen Josephine in 1846. At that time Fredrik Wilhelm Scholander
designed both the new furnishing as well as the pattern, which has now
been slightly adapted and given a very personal note by the addition of
the coronet of the heir to the throne. The star is a variation of the
North Star, a famous Swedish national symbol. The delicate, bright
colours are reminiscent of all things Swedish an royal and of the
wonderful early summertime in Sweden.
It has long been a traditon
im the Royal Family to engage in charitable projects for children and
youth. The same applies to products of the wedding series: Part of the
revenues will flow into the
wedding foundation of the
Crown Princess Couple, which shall serve to »promote good health and
combat exclusion among children and young people in Sweden«.
The following manufactures were selected as
purveyors:
Arvid Nordquist, Cloetta, Delicato, Ekelund, Frödinge Mejeri,
Gustavsbergs Porslinfabrik, Kiviks Musteri, Mema/GAB, Opto Design,
Orrefors Kosta Boda, Reijmyre Glaskunst, Rörstrand, Skultuna, Svenskt
Tenn, Upside, Weibulls and Åhlens.
