3 Artists + 4 Elements = »PEHMEÄÄ KOVAA SUOMALAISTA«
Extended till January 7th
The current exhibition of the Finnish Embassy shows the works of three Finnish artists who work at the interface between crafts and the visual arts. The title of the exhibition is a reference to the basic materials of the exhibited art works: ceramics, textiles, wood and metal. The works are complex to interpret, and the materials cannot be identified in each case. The result is closer to the visual arts than to arts and crafts.

The artists participating in the exhibition are leading, award-winning representatives of their artistic disciplines – artists who have practiced their art for a long time and who have also made a name for themselves internationally:
With his pieces of jewellery, Juhani Heikkilä ponders the questions of life, both big and small. For him, jewellery is the means to create art.
For Åsa Hellman the source of inspiration is her own life, from which she draws her ideas for sculptures, reliefs and large bowls. But also the sea and the Finnish landscape are reflected in her ceramic works. Ulla-Maija Vikman’s textile art works consist of thousands of viscose threads which sway and tremble with the breeze. The textile paintings she has created appear as flowing colour surfaces moving freely in space.
